Da Nang is perhaps the most balanced city for backpackers in Vietnam, offering affordable beachfront living that is rare in Southeast Asia. The My Khe beach area is lined with hostels where a bed costs as little as $7. The food scene is a highlight—don't miss 'Mi Quang,' a local noodle dish that costs about $1.20 at street stalls. The city is famous for its bridges, including the Dragon Bridge which breathes fire on weekends, a free spectacle that brings the whole city together. For nature lovers, the Marble Mountains and Son Tra Peninsula (Monkey Mountain) are just a short, cheap scooter ride away. Da Nang feels safer and cleaner than HCMC or Hanoi, with wider roads and less intense traffic.
