Lijiang

Lijiang is a backpacker's paradise in the Yunnan province. The Old Town is a maze of traditional Naxi architecture, water canals, and vibrant blossoms. While the main town can feel touristy, the 'backpacking' vibe is alive in smaller guesthouses and hidden teahouses. Food is incredibly cheap—you can get a massive bowl of 'Crossing the Bridge Noodles' for under $3. For adventures, Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the world's deepest canyons, is just a bus ride away and is a mandatory multi-day trek for backpackers. Your daily budget here goes extremely far, and the social scene is fantastic as travelers from all over the world converge here before heading further into the mountains or toward Tibet.
