Odense Travel Costs in 2026: Backpacker, Nomad & Luxury Budgets

Odense may not be the first city that springs to mind for budget travel, but this charming Funen city rewards those who look past Copenhagen's price tags. Right now, the streets are alive with the H.C. Andersen Festivals, where free outdoor theatre and street performances turn the old town into a storyteller's dream — and you can enjoy most of it without spending a crown.

Your best budget sleep is at Danhostel Odense or the city's other basic hostels, where dorm beds run around 40-50 USD in August. Skip tourist restaurants and hit up the Netto or Rema 1000 supermarkets for picnic supplies, or grab a cheap bakery smørrebrød for lunch. The best free experiences include the vast green spaces of Munke Mose park, the quirky art installations around the river, and just wandering the cobbled lanes where Hans Christian Andersen once walked. The city's cathedral and many old houses cost nothing to admire from outside.

For accommodation, look in Indre By — the centre is walkable and full of hostels, though Vesterbro just west of the station offers quieter and slightly cheaper rooms.
